The Center
for Physical Activity and Weight Management and Energy Balance Laboratory
conducts energy balance research on weight management, exercise, and nutrition.
Subject populations range from pre-school aged children to older adults. The
Energy Balance Laboratory is a state-of-the-art, 10,000 ft sq facility built in
2000 and features a metabolic kitchen and whole-room indirect calorimeter.
Other technologies include a dedicated 1,600 ft sq exercise room, body
composition analysis by DEXA, biochemistry laboratory, energy intake and
long-term feeding facility, and several methodologies for cardiovascular fitness
and resistance training. A separate 7,500 ft sq facility located in
Post
Doctoral and Research Assistants will gain practical experience in the
following areas:
Required Qualifications
Earned BS,
MS or PH.D., as appropriate in any specialization which is appropriate for the
study of energy balance and obesity such as exercise physiology, exercise
behavior, psychology, nutrition, public health, biochemistry, epidemiology,
etc.
Post Doctoral Duties and
Responsibilities:
25%
Coordinate NIH-funded research on physical activity and energy intake OR
25%
Coordinate ongoing eight management clinics
50% Publish
articles and submit grant proposals as appropriate.
15%
Collaborate with multidisciplinary research groups on various NIH-funded
studies examining approaches to weight loss and maintenance.
10%Supervise
laboratory testing such as exercise tolerance testing, body composition by
DEXA, energy expenditure of routine exercise, etc. or measurement of energy
intake.
